Jenna’s dream to become Sevalia’s first Lady Knight in centuries is now within reach. Finally, she can live out her destiny to become a powerful warrior mage, or so she hopes. Although the Crown supports her, many others do not. Her father disinherits her, several powerful nobles attempt to lock her into Sevalia’s mage Towers, and her Rahtani relatives from the southern desert call for her to abandon Sevalia entirely.
Meanwhile, Jenna becomes embroiled in palace politics when she is called to help strengthen the tenuous peace with the new republic in the north. A peace that is threatened by sedition in her hometown of Salara. With her family in danger and war once more on the horizon, Jenna must choose between divided loyalties.

I was so excited to see the second book in this series and I must say that I was not disappointed.NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD
Overall, I found the book to move at a decent pace that kept me engaged (read late into the night - pretty tired today, lol). Character development was steady and I found that most of the developments made sense. The only thing that stuck out at me, fairly strongly as well, was the development of the romance between Jenna and the crown prince. There was such moaning about class difference with Sebastion however, here there was none and this time it's the heir! That struck me as very strange.
Looking forward to the next installment. I hope I don't have to wait another four or five years, but no matter when it arrives, I'll be first in line to read it.

To Serve the King Sevalian Chronicles Book 2 eBook Naomi Lane Reviews
The same charming writing style as the first book. The plot matures and the story line continues to unfold. Several twists and relationships redefined. A good read.
Good
Don't let the horrible cover fool you. It's a great book. Has the flavor of Throne of Glass.
I really liked the first book in this series, I saw real potential in the author and was excited for the 2nd in the series but this book did not live up to my expectations at all. Ms Lane took the interesting, stong, independent young woman she created in the first book and developed her into a whiney boy-crazy petulant child. I actually cringed a few times while reading this sequel. This is not a book of want my daughter to read, Jenna is no longer a role model. Tamora Pierce's Alanna series tells the same story with much more respect for the young heroine and her readers.
Well written sequel that builds on the previous book’s world building. I enjoyed the plot and the characters and would happily buy another sequel if the author chooses to continue this series.
. Some people complained about how long it took for the second book to come out. I know that I cannot write a book this good if I had 20 years to do it. Thank you for a great story.
Naomi Lane tells of a young teen sent To Play the Lady (ebook) Jenna and her brother are the first commoners set to court, she to be one of the queens Ladies, and he as an aspiring knight. Magical talents are usually found in the nobility, but Jenna is a mind mage, though she can only talk to horses when she arrives, and she has a magical sword and bow from her people’s magic. When her abilities allow her to stop an assassination attempt and prevent a war. This allows her To Serve the King (ebook) as a knight trainee. But people are using her merchant father to further their ends, drawing her in. I was fascinated by the tale and willing to wait for more.Review printed by Philadelphia Weekly Press
